Our interest in alpacas began with an ad in an agricultural magazine that sounded “too good to be true” but intrigued us nevertheless. Our curiosity led us on a quest to discover more about these mysterious creatures and the business opportunities they might afford.
We were farmers at heart -Frank spent the first 40 years of his life on a dairy farm - and we were anxious to make use of the 85 acres of land we retained when we sold our dairy farm several years ago. As we both work full time off the farm, these “low maintenance” animals held extra appeal.
We would like to impress you with the depth and thoroughness of our research prior to launching our new business venture. In truth, we were hooked after our first farm visit !! We did, however, visit many farms and talk to many people before bringing home our first alpacas – two bred females in the spring of 2002.
Five years later, we agree that all we read about these remarkable animals is true – from the ease of care and clean-up to the thrill of a new cria – ….
Although our three children are all
grown and live out of state, they support us in every way possible – from building fence and shoveling “beans” on
their weekend trips home to endless phone calls offering advice and moral
support. (As our herd grows, so does our phone bill!)
Sharing these animals with our grandchildren is a delight in itself.
Through a thoughtful breeding program, we have grown our herd to 15 award-winning alpacas. The addition of a superior rose gray herdsire, Snowmass Casanova’s Frost (co-owned with Edgewood Farm Alpacas) has brought our breeding program to a new level.
As we look forward to spring and a new crop of crias, we feel blessed to have discovered alpacas and hope you will visit us for a glimpse into the alpaca lifestyle
